Working for mental wellbeing

Working for Mental Wellbeing is a hybrid event organised by ENWHP and hosted by INSST (Instituto Nacional de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo).

Its main purpose is to reflect on best practice in relation to Workplace Mental Health Promotion and to discuss the work in this area in which ENWHP is currently involved. A key output will be to develop a ‘Barcelona Declaration on Mental Health and Wellbeing at Work,’ to which governmental bodies, business organisations, social partners and employers will be asked to commit.

The event will also provide an opportunity to help shape ENWHP going forward.

II Jornada de la Red de empresas saludables: RUMBO A UNA SEGURIDAD Y SALUD 4.0

The Conference took place at INSST headquarters in Madrid the 10th of May 2017. The opening presentation "Twenty years of the Luxembourg Declaration: Where we are coming from? Where we are? Where to go?" was done by Dr. Karl Kuhn President of ENWHP and founder of the network.

EU Fitwork project

More than 70 participants attended the final Fitwork Conference organized by ENWHP and the National Institute for Safety and Health at Work (INSST) with the support of ASEPEYO

The results of two pilot programs & the guide to develop physical activity programs at work were presented together with the benefits and challenges of implementing a workplace health promotion program and aspects to be considered when implementing one.

The conference took place on the 28th of June 2018 and was co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.

Closing conference on 'Promoting Healthy Work for Employees with Chronic Illness (PHWork)' (8th European Conference)

On 22-23 October 2013, the 9th ENWHP initiative "Promoting Healthy Work for Employees with Chronic Illness - Public Health and Work (PHWork)" was concluded by a large conference in Brussels. The aims of this conference were to raise further awareness about the impact of chronic diseases on the labour market and the social security and to exchange and improve knowledge and cooperation of all stakeholders about the possibilities to retain workers with a chronic disease, or facilitate their return-to-work. Thematic conference on 'Promoting of Mental Health and Well-being in Workplaces' (7th European Conference)

The European Thematic Conference "Promotion of Mental Health and Well-being in Workplaces" at the beginning of March 2011 in Berlin concluded the 8th ENWHP initiative "work in tune with life. move europe". The campaign ran from October 2009 to December 2010. About 2000 enterprises participated - public administrations, schools, hospitals, small and larger companies, at both beginner and advanced level - and they actively supported the campaign as a "Move Europe Partner". 6th European Conference on Promoting Workplace Health "HEALTHY WORK - HEALTHY LIFESTYLE - HEALTHY BUSINESS"

The conference in Perugia concluded the 7th ENWHP initiative "Move Europe", focussing on comprehensive workplace health strategies integrating lifestyle management into a wider approach for improving the quality of working life. To promote the exchange of experience, Models of Good Practice that have been identified during the course of the project were presented by company representatives who described their activities in this field.

In times of increasing global competition the health of the workforce becomes one of the key resources of competitiveness and capacity to innovate. Ageing European populations and ageing workforces in particular require a stronger investment in healthy living and working conditions.

The workplace is an important location for successful health promotion strategies because employees today spend a growing amount of time at work and a better state of health can be created here through a healthy working environment, organisation of work and the promotion of healthier lifestyles. Large numbers of premature death and chronic diseases could principally be avoided through the promotion of healthier lifestyles. And the investments pay dividends: A conservative estimate of the benefits from workplace health promotion indicates a likely annual return of three to one or more.

However, improved individual awareness of one's own health will not be sufficient to ensure a healthier working life in the future. A comprehensive approach is needed which stimulates the development of healthy and participatory enterprise cultures and which involves both the physical and mental well-being of employees.

Encouraging more enterprises throughout Europe to investing in more and better health at work - this is the aim of the European Network for Workplace Health Promotion ENWHP.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The conference in Perugia will conclude the 7th ENWHP initiative "Move Europe", focussing on comprehensive workplace health strategies integrating lifestyle management into a wider approach for improving the quality of working life. Three specific issues will be addressed at the conference:

Working life on the move: nutrition, fitness and well-being
Work and stress: Spice of life or kiss of death?
Clearing the air at work: the enjoyment of a smoke-free workplace

A plenary presentation will take place for each of the three topics and will be followed by more in-depth discussions and presentations of Models of Good Practice to be held by company representatives identified in the course of the "Move Europe" campaign to foster exchange of experiences in the field.
