Founded:
1991

Structure:
Since 1991 members of the Danish Healthy Cities Network have worked together in developing new methods, carrying out courses and conferences and issuing numerous publications. So far 67 out of 98 municipalities as well as  2 out of 5 regions have chosen to be part of the network.
The network has formulated 3 main priorities for the years 2009-2012:

  1. Development of methods, models, and tools:
There is a need to develop methods, models, and tools in order to support local work for health promotion and disease prevention.
  2. Capacity building:
This include facilitation and coordination of network  formation, where network members and cooperation partners provide and use knowledge, inspiration, and support in order to locally strengthen and develop the field of public health.
  3. Visibility and academic profiling:
The goal of this priority is to make the profile of The Danish Healthy Cities Network visible and to make its role in public health clear.

The Danish Cities Network operates within a number of subjects and the selection and prioritization of these subjects is made by the plenum and the executive committee on the basis of the member?s needs and requests as well as on actual strategies in the field of public health.  One of the topics is Workplace health promotion.

Objectives:
The overall objective for the Danish Healthy Cities Network is to strengthen and develop the field of public health locally in order to improve the populations? general health and wellbeing. Furthermore it seeks to be a valued partner in the field of health professions both on a national and an international level.
The aim for Workplace health promotion is to strengthen the health promotion and disease prevention efforts in both public and private workplaces.

This will be achieved by:

  • Ensuring that decision-makers and partners in the municipalities have the most recent knowledge on health promotion and prevention in workplaces. Moreover that they have the knowledge about methods, models and tools and that they can convert these into practice.
  • Developing and communicating knowledge and experience on workplace health promotion to relevant target groups and showing the importance and relevance of using the workplace as a setting for promotion.

Cooperation Partners:
The Danish Healthy Cities Network cooperates with both national and international partners. These are the National Board of Health, National Institute of Public Health - University of Southern Denmark, Local Government Denmark, Danish Institute of Governmental Research, and WHO European Healthy Cities Network.
