National Institute of Occupational Safety and Hygiene

The Spanish NCO of the ENWHP has been hosted by the Centro Nacional de Condiciones de Trabajo of the Instituto Nacional de Seguridad e Higiene en el Trabajo (INSHT) since 1997.

INSHT is the country's specialised scientific/technical body, whose main mission is analysing and studying occupational health and safety conditions, as well as promoting and supporting improvement initiatives.

The INSHT has several key objectives, including:

• providing technical assistance and advice
• maintaining a knowledge base of OSH situationand trends
• promoting and supporting appropriate training in educational programmes at every level
• raising awareness and taking a lead in prevention issues
• collating, publishing and facilitating the distribution of information
• facilitating information exchange among public organisations
• organising and promoting activities such as training, information, research, studies and dissemination of occupational health issues.

Since 1997, INSHT has set annual objectives for WHP at both European and national levels, awarded grants for WHP initiatives and marketed the concept in conferences and seminars. INSHT staff offers regular, multidisciplinary update courses on WHP.
