Institute of Occupational and Environmental Health

The Institute of Occupational and Environmental Health is part of Riga Stradins University, which is the leading university in Latvia providing education on medial and social sciences.

The main tasks oft the Institute involve training, information, research and expert services on specific OHS issues. Among its most important tasks is providing training on various OHS matters every year for undergraduate and postgraduate students and other experts.

The Institute participates in the creation of information and training materials and also hosts a library of OHS information materials. It also provides scientific research on occupational and work-related diseases as well as occupational accidents, operating the largest measurement laboratory in Latvia for the detection and analysis of work environment risk factors.

The Institute takes part in a variety of national and international activities on OHS. It is acting as contact and information centre for several networks and agencies. For instance, the Institute is represented in the Latvian National Contact Office for the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work and is the NCO for the European Network for Workplace Health Promotion (ENWHP).
