Administration of Occupational Safety and Health - Vinnueftirlitið
Vinnueftirlitið is a government institution and is account able to the Ministry of Social Affairs. The board of the institution consists of representatives of ministries, employers and employee organisations. Vinnueftirlitið is the centre of occupational health and safety activities in Iceland.
A three-year action programme for 2005 - 2007 of Vinnueftirlitið focuses on the integration of three core activities: workplace inspection, training and research.
Vinnueftirlitið has been the National Contact Office of ENWHP since 1997.
In 2003 Vinnueftirlitið founded a national WHP Network. The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of workplace health promotion by actively initiating and promoting discussion, information exchange, learning and activities under the published objective: Members of the network include government institutions, as well as labour organisations, trade unions and employers' organisations, professional and public health organisations, workplaces and special interest groups. Activities have included dissemination of information and experience through an electronic newsletter and on the Internet, symposiums on stress management and alcohol prevention in the workplace, peer-educational meetings and widespread publicity for WHP.
