French National Agency for the Improvement of Working Conditions

The French National Agency for the Improvement of Working Conditions (ANACT), created in 1973, is a public institution, managed by a three-party council (employers, employees, public authorities). ANACT helps businesses to improve both the performance of their organisation and the working conditions of their staff. ANACT produces and disseminates innovative methods for participative change and assists in the design and implementation of public incentive policies. These fields are:

  • Occupational health and safety in the workplace
  • Technological innovation and socio-technical design
  • Skills and employment and the ageing workforce
  • Negotiation assistance and prevention of industrial disputes.

The ARACT (Regional Associations for the Improvement of Working Conditions) pass on these missions in their different regions, with particular focus on SMEs. Based on consultancy services and studies and on the exchange of experience with enterprises, consultants, researchers and social partners, the ANACT network develops innovative methods for technological, organisational and social change. The ANACT network acts as a correspondent for international institutions dealing with work organisation and the quality of working life.
