The future of prevention and health promotion at the workplace & thank you Dr. Karl Kuhn from the ENWHP

Dr. Karl Kuhn, the ENWHP Chairman and one of the network initiators, retired at the end March from his position as Chief Scientist at the Federal Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) in Dortmund. Around 80 colleagues and Networkers from home and abroad, attended a workshop on 1st March on "The future of prevention and health promotion at the workplace" to mark this occasion.

After opening greetings from the BAuA president Isabel Rothe and from Michal Koll, from the German Ministry for Labour and Social Affairs, Dr. Eleftheria Lehmann gave a short overview on the emergence of developments in the field of WHP (in German). In the second presentation, Dr. Gregor Breucker of the BKK focused on networks and partnerships which have promoted and strengthened the widespread activities of WHP in Germany and Europe.

A more recent perspective on WHP was taken by Prof. Thomas Kieselbach, who addressed the issue of WHP linked to restructuring processes. Dr. Uwe Brandenburg from VW, highlighted WHP implementation (especially health management systems) from an organisational perspective. Success factors were again addressed in the subsequent presentation by Heinz Kowalski.

To end the day, the European perspective was added to the conference agenda, starting with a presentation by Prof. Marc de Greef' of PREVENT in Brussels, and the future of WHP in Europe and challenges for mental health promotion were presented by Dr. Richard Wynne form WRC in Dublin.
Last but not least, Dr. Karl Kuhn himself concluded with future prospects for WHP.
