Quality criteria and success factors of workplace health promotion

1st Initiative (1997 - 1999)

The project began in 1997 and concluded at the 1st Conference of the European Network: "Healthy Employees in Healthy Organisations - Workplace Health Promotion in Europe" which took place in Bonn in June 1999. The project was headed and coordinated by the European Information Centre of the BKK Bundesverband.

The aim of the project was to identify companies in the participating countries which clearly demonstrated good practice in workplace health promotion, to document this experience in a useful way and then disseminate this information to as wide an audience as possible. This was done in order to encourage the development of good practice in WHP in other organisations.

In order to provide an objective basis for the assessment of good practice a set of criteria were developed by the Members of the ENWHP. The approach eventually developed relies heavily on that used in the EFQM (European Foundation of Quality Management) model.

Companies exhibiting good practice in WHP were identified, their experiences checked against the quality criteria and then documented. Site visits using external experts were undertaken to validate the information that had been obtained.

One of the most important outcomes of the project has been the publication of the Models of Good Practice. This document gives a clear insight into the processes followed by each of the organisations as they developed their workplace health promotion programmes.
